A Heartfelt Testimonial from the Scheller’s: A Lasting Impact of Catholic Education
How long have you been a contributor to Catholic Education Arizona?
Matthew and I have been supporters of Catholic Education Arizona since its beginning in 1997. Catholic education has always been part of our lives. I attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in Prescott, and Matthew attended St. Vincent de Paul in Phoenix. All four of our children attended Catholic elementary school, high school, and college. Matthew also had the privilege of serving on CEA’s Board of Directors for six years.
What do you believe is the true value of a quality Catholic education?
We believe Catholic education is about so much more than academics. It provides a strong foundation in faith, values, and service to others that stays with students throughout their lives. We have seen firsthand how Catholic education has shaped our own lives and those of our children, and we are incredibly grateful for that gift.
Why do you choose to support underserved students with your Arizona tax liability?
We believe every child deserves the opportunity to receive a Catholic education, regardless of their family’s financial circumstances. CEA helps make that possible by providing scholarships to families who might otherwise be unable to afford Catholic school tuition. Directing our Arizona tax dollars to CEA is a wonderful way to help give other children the same opportunities our family has enjoyed.
What would you share with others who are considering taking the tax credit?
We would encourage everyone to consider participating! The Arizona tax credit is a simple way to make a lasting difference in a child’s life. Rather than simply paying those dollars in state taxes, you can direct them toward helping a student receive a Catholic education and building up our Catholic faith. It’s an opportunity to invest in our children, strengthen our Catholic schools, and help pass our faith on to the next generation. We have complete trust and admiration for the work CEA does for the children of the Diocese of Phoenix.
