Providing students with opportunity

St. Mary-Basha Catholic School was founded in 1944 by the Sisters of Charity to provide Hispanic and Latino children with high quality, faith-based education that wasn’t being provided by the city’s then-segregated public schools. Sister Mary Felix was the first principal of the school’s previous location at the Williams Field Road site, teaching 123 students. Today, the school continues to serve the East Valley as an essential part of the area’s Catholic community.

In 1963, construction for an entirely new school on West Galveston Street began. The new school buildings opened in the fall of 1964. The school went on to open its doors to more students to the present K-8 school structure. From 1984 to 2012, Sister Mary Norbert Long served as principal of St. Mary-Basha Catholic School, initiating many positive changes that boosted students’ academic learning and uniting the community.

Over 75 years of excellence

St. Mary-Basha Catholic School is dedicated to providing its students with opportunities for growth and learning that will help them become active members of their community and society. Students in grades 5-8 learn the value of teamwork by participating in the Diocesan CYAA School Sports Program. In an enjoyable, safe, and positive environment, students develop skills and preparation for high school sports including baseball, basketball, soccer, softball, baseball, volleyball, and more.
