Established in 2009, Annunciation Catholic School provides a well-rounded Catholic education for students K-8. In the school’s inaugural year, 23 students enrolled. That number has since increased to 200 students from 14 different parishes. Under the direction of the founding principal, Dr. Sharon Pristash, Annunciation Catholic School continues to grow and thrive.

Created with community in mind

Annunciation Catholic School was created with the approval of Bishop Olmsted and the Diocese of Phoenix in August 2009 to meet the needs of the Catholic communities of Our Lady of Joy, St. Gabriel the Archangel, and St. Rose Duchesne for a Catholic school north of Loop 101.

With over 2 million children in the U.S. receiving a Catholic education, Annunciation Catholic School sets itself apart by providing students with the necessary virtues and skills they need to become positive contributors to their family and community. All students are encouraged to become a S.T.A.R: Strong communicators, Thoughtful citizens, Active Christians, and Resourceful learners.

Self-motivation for lifelong learning

At Annunciation Catholic School, students learn to plan, organize, and strive to accomplish realistic goals with curiosity, enthusiasm, and self-motivation for lifelong learning. Annunciation has graduated two eighth grade classes and 100% of students who applied to a Catholic high school were accepted. Up to 50% of students graduate with honors. Annunciation ensures that students learn to work cooperatively with others to design solutions to real-world problems.

STREAM

To help prepare students for successful careers in the modern workforce, every teacher at Annunciation Catholic School plans and implements one project-based learning unit for the year using STREAM principles. STREAM stands for Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. (Learn more about STREAM at ACS here: http://www.acsphx.org/academics/a_c_s_s_t_r_e_a_m/-_s_t_r_e_a_m_f_a_q_s)

By incorporating multiple subjects in a hands-on, problem-solving activity to cement knowledge, students learn to be innovative and investigative while having fun. STREAM principles also show students how the subjects they learn in school are applicable in their everyday lives. Parents are also encouraged to participate in STREAM activities to promote greater learning, communication, and a sense of community.

Classrooms at Annunciation are arranged so students sit together and work in groups to encourage collaboration, discuss their work, and challenge each other’s ideas.
