On June 5, 2022, I celebrated my 60 years as a Daughter of Charity. It was a simple day with a Mass, a delicious dinner, and the company of my Sisters in Community, especially three others who shared the same anniversary.
On November 16, 2022, Sr. Mary Loretta and I celebrated with our St. Vincent de Paul School Community. There was a simple Mass with special prayers of thanksgiving for the work of St. Vincent, St. Louise and the Daughters of Charity.
At the end of mass Father and all the students extended their hands over us in blessing, and we were given a framed Apostolic blessing from Pope Francis.
After that, we were given the most extraordinary gift we have ever received. The Vincentians, both students and staff, honored us with a spiritual bouquet of prayers and service for those living in poverty.
The service part of these gifts touched our hearts and each day since, we have thought of the recipients of that service and how they have been blessed through the prayers and simple gestures in our names. We have never received such a precious and humbling gift as the acts of kindness from the children and school staff.
I am very grateful to God for calling me to be a Daughter of Charity and especially grateful to those who organized the Mass and spiritual bouquet. Gratitude is a precious commodity these days, when there seems to be so much selfishness and disrespect for others’ culture, race, or economic status. The word “gratitude” implies action. I will continue for as many days and years as the Lord gives me, to live up to the goodness and generosity of the children and staff and in thanksgiving for their kindness to those who live in poverty.
I extend my gratitude to you, our benefactors. You stand shoulder to shoulder with the Daughters of Charity to provide for those who are in need. Thank you.
God Bless You,
Sr. Cabrini D.C.
