Since 1998, Catholic Education Arizona has raised $383 million and provided over 161,000 scholarships to underserved students. Sarah Kriwiel, Director of Development, knows firsthand the significance of these scholarships. “This mission is personal to me because I’ve lived the impact of Catholic education,” Sarah shared. “These scholarships give children an education and a foundation for their entire future.”

The Gift That Lasts a Lifetime

“I work here because I want other families, especially those who could never afford it on their own, to have that same opportunity. I’ve seen what a difference it makes when a child is known, loved, challenged, and guided in a community rooted in faith.”

For Sarah, these scholarships are more than financial assistance. “I’ve seen tears of relief when a mom or dad realizes they no longer have to choose between paying a bill and giving their child an education that nurtures faith, character, and confidence,” she said. 

Helping Others Change Lives

As Director of Development for the Changing Lives with Legacy division, Sarah builds meaningful relationships with donors who make the scholarships possible. “I enjoy seeing donors’ eyes light up when they hear about a student whose life was changed because someone like them said ‘yes’ to helping,” she said. “It’s rewarding to witness the pride and joy they feel in making a real difference.” 

Catholic Education Arizona scholarships are made possible through the Arizona Private Education Tax Credit, the Arizona Low-Income and Disabled / Displaced Corporate Tax Credits, traditional donations and planned gifts. Donors and tax credit contributors support Catholic Education Arizona and the Diocese of Phoenix Catholic Schools because of their outstanding results:

  • 99% graduation rate 
  • 96% matriculation to higher education, trade school, or military service
  • 1000s of hours of community service conducted annually
